A Pagewise Synopsis of the Theory

Offered here is a theory about the origin of the universe and the nature of consciousness written for the intelligent non-scientist. The text will explain the background knowledge necessary to make the theory accessible to its designated audience. To avoid boring readers with a hard-science background, these sections offer a different perspective on the fundamental nature of energy.

The following page-by-page abstracts are intended as a summary of each page. Someone with a basic degree in physics or electrical engineering who has kept track of general scientific developments might be able to derive an approximation of the theories from the abstracts.

The prospective reader is advised to evaluate this theory on its own merits, despite conflicts with existing belief systems such as:

  • Atheism.

  • Creationism, Creation Science, and all beliefs which hold that the universe and biological life were created by an almighty God.

  • All Darwinian and neo-Darwinian evolution theories. We have no conflict whatever with the physical evidence showing that life forms have evolved over a few billion years— only with the Darwinian explanations of how this happened.

  • “New age” and “channeled” creation notions.

  • Big Bang theory.

  • Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, the Bahai and Mormon faiths, and some other belief systems.

  • String theory, quantum theory, and the “Standard Model” of subatomic physics.

  • Commonly held beliefs about the meaning and purpose of life.

  • Conventional theories about the nature of the human mind, and consciousness.

PAGE I — THE WRONG GOD

The conceptual understanding of God as Creator of the universe was derived many centuries ago by well intentioned men whose knowledge of the universe rivaled New Orleans mayor Nagin's understanding of hurricanes and levees. Their understanding of mathematics was severely limited, if they had any at all. The most brilliant of these men knew less about the workings of the universe than a high school dropout knows today.

It can hardly be surprising that science finds the old religious concepts to be of little or no value, and that an enormous rift has developed between those who believe in modern science and those who still believe in concepts of God and soul devised by intelligent, but ignorant people.

The usual reason for quibbling about God is to prove either that He exists or that He does not. Our agenda is different. We re-examine the properties commonly attributed to God, such as omnipotence and all-knowledge, with a view to determining if such properties can actually exist.

This is quite a different issue from determining if God exists. If there is a Creator, He deserves to be known by His true characteristics, not by the inventions of his creations.

That statement does not foreshadow another watered-down God-concept, such as suggestions coming from the intelligent design movement that the creator need be no more than a high-level interior decorator.

We will develop the concept of a powerful Creator Who did not create the stuff of the universe or the one fundamental law which rules it, but Who did create Himself. This is a God so logically defined that there are no contradictions between His nature and his actions. Obviously, this is not the God of conventional religions.

We will then consider which properties an entity capable of creating the universe might actually need. This will produce a practical definition of the Creator which can be developed exactly like a scientific hypothesis— with verifiable information and common-sense logic.

Many of our conclusions are so obvious as to be trivial. For example, we conclude that any Creator of the universe must be capable of thought. This obvious but essential property is contradictory to the traditional attributes of God, Who, if capable of creative thought, cannot be all-knowing.

PAGE II — THE PHYSICS OF SOUL

The concept of the human soul was defined by the same folks who gave us the Omnipotent God concept. This section examines some problems with the soul-concept and proposes a different set of properties.

The soul is physical. It interacts with the human brain through a biological interface specifically engineered to allow the soul to control its body and share its brain's sensory information. A simple entity, soul is potentially capable of conscious thought and sentience. We have given it a new name to go with its redefined properties— beon.

PAGE III — THE ORIGIN OF BEON

Beon Theory does not attribute the origin of beon to God, on the grounds that its creation would have been a horrible mistake which God would not have made. Many who might be well disposed towards Beon Theory will find this particular concept unacceptably divergent from their religious beliefs.

Therefore most of this page is devoted to persuading those readers that the concept of a Creator would make better sense if He was not blamed for the conscious component of man. These arguments will make no difference to those who insist that God made man, never mind that according to the Old Testament Bible, God Himself acknowledged that it was an idea which did not yield desirable results.

PAGE IV — MIRACLES

Here we explain why even devout atheists must accept the existence of at least one Miracle.

We discuss the most popular versions of this Miracle (an almighty God or the Big Bang) and their shared flaw, the impossibility that a single Miracle can bring a universe (or anything else) into existence.

We then replace the current mono-Miracle concepts with a simpler alternative: Three Miracles. (Yes, three— as in The Three Musketeers or Three Amigos.) These are energy, something called aeon, and a fortuitous space-time juxtaposition.

PAGE V — A BRIEF HISTORY OF ENERGY

The folks who concocted the traditional God-concept erred partly from their ignorance of physics. Since the theories presented here are derived from classical physics, you'll want some understanding of that science in order to make sense of them, or to impress your friends.

Some folks imagine that they can understand the origin of the universe and nature of man (including themselves) while remaining ignorant of fundamental physics principles. This is simply not possible. The most descriptive, yet generous term for anyone who believes otherwise is, “mystic.”

Fortunately, fundamental physics is easy to understand when the subject is approached from the perspective of common knowledge, which we will do. Three basic concepts are presented here, beginning with energy, a subject of which you already have an understanding which we hope to enlarge upon.

That enlargement will include thermodynamic principles (the three laws) and the second physics concept essential to our ideas, entropy. A somewhat arcane and neglected concept, entropy must be understood by anyone seeking to truly understand the nature of human consciousness.

The third concept involves the primeval state of the universe. We replace the forty-year old tradition of Big Bang theory with its exact opposite.

This page won't be the easiest reading, but it is essential reading. It doesn't read like a National Enquirer story, so peruse it a few times until the words are replaced in your mind with understanding. Proceed when that happens, but only then. You cannot understand these ideas unless you first understand the simple basic physics behind them.

In the course of teaching physics and math concepts to intelligent people with no science background, I found that the biggest impediment to their understanding is the belief that if they do not comprehend something on the first read, it is beyond them. Big mistake. The brain often rejects ideas at first look simply because they are unfamiliar. Re-read them a time or two (a day or so later) until they become familiar— then you will easily understand them.

PAGE VI — BEON— THE COUNTERFORCE

The universe is made of energy, but what does the making? The official scientific line declares that all complex energy forms and physical forces result from an ancient (uncaused) explosion of a single particle tinier than an electron which contained all the matter and energy in the universe. With admirable consistency, the official line extends the bizarre concept that, “complex things just happen,” into the belief that life forms are the result of random mutations. Here we offer an alternative.

This page explains additional properties of beons, the hypothetical entities we defined earlier, including their usefulness as an organizing force.

The concepts involved here are simple enough. Readers who recall their thermodynamics classes need only be told that beon is akin to “Maxwell's demon,” except that a beon is more than simply a filter for slow moving molecules. It is capable of shaping dark energy into structured forms and then manipulating those forms.

Readers who have somehow gotten through life without a course in thermodynamics will likely be anxious to expand their knowledge of this practical subject so as to facilitate their understanding of the mechanisms behind all creative processes, including thought.

If the individual entities we've defined as beons are capable of freely violating the Second Law of Thermodynamics, as we propose, and if this ability leads to the development of consciousness as we will propose, it follows that the ability to act as a counterforce to entropy must be independent of consciousness.

Since we've defined beons to be real entities, they must be composed of something. There are no spirits in this theory. We conclude that each beon's counterforce property is inherent in whatever substance they are composed of, which we name aeon.

PAGE VII — THE DANCE OF CONSCIOUSNESS

This page describes some fundamental ideas about consciousness: what it is, how it begins for humans, and what mechanisms are required to sustain it.

It offers a general description of the relationship between beon and brain, including something which the science of psychology has not provided — an explanation of the real, physical mechanisms behind the conscious and sub-conscious minds.

We describe the function of the human brain in the development of consciousness, and the importance of sensory mechanisms. These concepts will be used later in an alternative theory about the reason for creation of the physical universe.

PAGE VIII — Beon Theory vs. Darwinism

Here we try to convince readers who might be wondering about the value of beon theory that the basic ideas heretofore presented already offer a significant improvement over Darwinian theories about the origin and evolution of biological life.

We are inordinately fond of the arguments in this section, which represent our best work yet. That alone insures their swift dismissal by most readers. (However, this wonderful page remains under development and has been withdrawn from the site until finished.)

PAGE IX — GOD — FIRST CONSCIOUSNESS

Since Beon Theory requires conscious intelligence as the motivating force behind creation, it is necessary to consider how a Creator might have become conscious.

(Lacking the preceding Page VIII, much of this page won't make sense. It will most likely be revised in the wake of preceding changes, so there's no point reading it now.)

PAGE X — CREATION— WHY BOTHER?

Earlier, complaining about the traditional God-concept, we argued that no intelligent entity would have created human beings. We resolved that complaint by exculpating God from all responsibility for the creation of the human soul (beon).

Nonetheless, establishing credit or blame for creation of the universe remains, and with it, the creation of human bodies, the mechanisms which coax reluctant beons into their small measure of consciousness.

In this (unwritten) page we explore possible reasons for (stories about) creation and for the attempt to introduce consciousness in beons like ourselves with limited potential.

PAGE XI — EVIDENCE

Beon Theory explains evidence which fits poorly into either religious or scientific theory, such as evolution and hypnosis. Here we easily explain evidence in the context of Beon Theory which does not fit elegantly into conventional scientific or religious belief systems. (This page remains unwritten.)

PAGE XII — Reinterpretations of physical evidence.

This section offers (or will, when finished) an alternative explanation for the evidence which led to the modern physics theory known as quantum mechanics. It is probably beyond the scope of a website. Its inclusion will depend upon reactions to the general theory.

PAGE XIII — OBVIOUS IMPLICATIONS OF BEON THEORY

Any respectable theory predicts things, so we will try our hand at that. (Later. Hey, guys, it's a website, a work in progress.)

PAGE XIV — AFTERLIFE & REINCARNATION

PAGE XV — ALTERNATIVE IDEAS ABOUT PHYSICS

Here we consider two different kinds of time and three kinds of space, a reason behind quantum phenomena (physics currently describes these, but does not explain why they occur), and why Newton's calculus cannot be used to describe observed quantum effects. (Later, of course.)

PAGE -- — OUR CHILDREN 'R US

Ten years after developing the basics of beon theory its author still believed in a single lifespan per beon. Such is the power of childhood religious training. When discussing the theory, it came up frequently. This page will consider reincarnation in the context of beon theory, when it gets written.

PAGE XV — QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Beon Theory easily deals with questions such as, 'Why does God permit evil to exist?' Or, 'Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?'
